431 Denise Hunter is an auto-buy for me, but her last several books have fallen short. In this book, the writing seemed too simple. The book seemed elementary with choppy chapters and only a few sentences here and there of true inspiration. Mia is a nice girl. She seems surprisingly down-to-earth for a movie star, and it's continually hammered home how she's the object of desire of most men on the planet (or at least in the US). But there's nothing outstanding, or different, about her character. For the most part, she's reacting to those around her as she runs away from Hollywood in an effort to simultaneously hide and hopefully save her career. Levi is strong and stubborn, the ever faithful loyal hero and protector, described several times as more handsome than any of Mia's hunky co-stars. He's rigid and a control freak but still likable. While both main characters begin to see their flaws and where their motivations lie, the kiss count in this book was off-the-charts, the physical attraction factor far too prominent. If that's what you like, then this is the book for you! I didn't like how their bodies were "flush" against each other and words to that effect, and they had very few honest and meaningful conversations. Molly and Grace are fun characters, but Molly, especially, came across as very immature at times (Grace can be forgiven since she IS young but often came across as more levelheaded than her older sister). The mystery angle was fun, and the resolution of that part of the story solid. Adam seemed there only to further the storyline of the first book. For a book billed as Christian, however, it was completely lacking. It was mentioned after the fact that Mia had attended church and met a lot of people. That and the fact that Mia realized she needed to get back to God (or words to that effect) was about the extent of it. So, not preachy for those who hate that, but extremely disappointing for those who expect more from their Christian fiction.
